Relevance in the Turbulence

June 16, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

How do you create a culture of “take my money, anyway?” In the lifecycle of any organization, we experience many bouts of turbulence. Events outside your control are going to happen. Often without warning. Best-laid plans often go awry.

The Communication Conundrum

April 20, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

communication conundrum

For the past four weeks, I’ve spent my days helping business leaders make big decisions with big consequences. How can we be sensitive to the current situation but, at the same time, bring in revenue? Should we be completely silent? Or can we be out there talking about what we have to offer? We respect […]

Making the Most of Time

March 27, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

I have an important invitation for you to join me in making your idea happen. So please read on, friends.   It’s Day 14 trying to follow a self-imposed morning routine that starts with a 5 am alarm and a pretty aggressive schedule to get things done. This is also Day 14 of starting my day […]

Your roots are showing: getting to trust

February 29, 2020 by Lisa Gerber 1 Comment

Greetings, mates.  I’m writing to you from Australia where I’m working with a group of creatives on a project here in Melbourne. I’ve never met these people before in person and it’s like showing up new with no history – a clean slate; like moving to a new town and starting fresh. Do you find […]

David vs Goliath Story: a small fish in a big pond

February 20, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

Check out this line at Vail on a powder day. (Now, in full disclosure, Vail later apologized for this atypical experience. It might be unfair to share this, but it illustrates a point I want to make about name recognition and playing against large, established brands) If you’re not a skier, powder days are the […]

Highlighting the Cracks in the Veneer

January 31, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

The weeks before Dan Harris, ABC news anchor published his memoir, he panicked that the details in the book could ruin his career. Now, this is somewhat ironic because the book is about meditation.

I wonder why it is we feel compelled to put forth this idea of perfection when our audiences appreciate knowing and seeing our flaws. Why can’t we reconcile that and be OK with being vulnerable?

Kiss and Tell: The crucial chapter to your story

January 25, 2020 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

The week before my ski vacation, the clip on my climbing skins broke. This clip is a small plastic piece that is essential to the success of my upcoming trip and is not available locally, so I turned to my friends at Skimo Co in Salt Lake City, whom I’ve raved about in the past. I know they can be relied upon when it comes to matters such as this immense first world problem, and take it very seriously.

Actions Speak Louder than Marketing

November 22, 2019 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

After 15 years as a customer with Intuit’s Quickbooks, they wouldn’t let me leave them. And it took me forever to break up finally. The break up has been a long time coming, but it’s not easy migrating bookkeeping software, and I have a host of other reasons why I didn’t leave them until Bench came along in my Instagram feed, no less, and swept me off my feet.

Storytelling and Narrative: Why is it such a Big Deal?

February 17, 2017 by Lisa Gerber Leave a Comment

I’d like to tell you a story to prove my point about the importance of story in proving points. This month I became Level One Avalanche Awareness certified after 24 hours (not consecutive) of study. Two evenings of classroom study and two days in the field digging pits and studying snow, looking at risks that cause […]

How to Stop Effing Up Your Email Marketing and Make More Connections

February 10, 2017 by Lisa Gerber 1 Comment

I received the following email from LogMeIn recently with the following subject line:  “Important information about your account.” But I don’t have an account with LogMeIn so I ignored it. When I received it again – maybe even a few more times, I thought I better look. That’s when I realized I do have a LogMeIn account. […]

What Others Are Saying

Thanks to Danny Brown for listing Lisa as a top 5 blogger to watch in 2013:

I first got to know Lisa Gerber from working with her when she was part of Arment Dietrich, and I knew then that she was a smart cookie… Her blog (has) become a staple part of my reading diet.
